Seismotech, Ltd. will take part in ProGRRess-2019 conference

Seismotech will take part in the 1st international scientific and practical conference Progrress-2019, which will be held in Sochi on November 5-8, 2019.

Kirill Ovchinnikov (a geophysicist of "Seismotech, Ltd.") will present a report "Technological advantages of a generalized layered model in seismic data processing and interpretation".

Since seismic exploration studies layered environment where parameters change dramatically from layer to layer, and the properties within each individual layer are relatively unchanged, seismic data processing in the layered model concept seems completely natural.

This description of the environment is often considered to be insufficiently general. This means only that it is necessary to expand the model of a single layer, which leads to a generalized layered model of the environment (GLM). Building of an environment model in such parameterization of the input data with such a description of the wave field gives a number of advantages, the main of which is the ability to obtain a stable, meaningful (from a geological point of view) solution even in very difficult seismic & geological conditions.

Interpretation of seismic data is carried out in similar models and it is based on the same principles. All geological and interpretative models belong to the same class of reservoir models. That is why it is necessary to deal with processing exactly in this paradigm, and ideally, we should perform processing and interpretation together from the very beginning of a project. This will allow the processor to speak with the interpreter and the geologist the same language, to work not with effective parameters, but with the parameters of the reservoir model, which includes a set of ideas about a priori geological information.

The parameterization of the environment using a generalized layered model allows to optimize the computational procedures at the expense of the description of the environment in the most compact way (properties within a layer is relatively homogeneous, but there are abrupt changes on the borders). This allows calculations to be performed quickly and also gives more time to test and analyze different hypotheses.

In addition to these advantages, the usage of GLM allows you to solve direct problems quickly, to carry out large amounts of modeling in a short time, which is a very important component of modern processing. In addition to the direct processing of field seismic data, it allows you to simulate the wave field and analyze different approaches and techniques for very complex geological environments.

The report provides examples of real production projects, demonstrating the capabilities of this technology.
