A joint article on the application of longitudinal and non-longitudinal (wide-profile) profiling technology

Issue No. 3 (2026) of the journal Instruments and Systems of Exploration Geophysics features a joint article titled "Improving the Efficiency of Regional Seismic Surveys in Complex Media Using Longitudinal and Non-Longitudinal (Wide-Profile) Profiling Technology," co-authored by specialists from VNIGNI and Seismotech.

Article authors are the following:

Gots I.A., Kaplan S.A., Lebedev E.B., Shushkevich N.Yu. — VNIGNI; Silaenkov O.A. — Seismotech

The article discusses the advantages of the wide-profile (WP) survey layout over conventional 2D acquisition, using as an example surveys performed in 2025 under the salt dome tectonics of the Caspian Depression. It is shown that, owing to the possibility of applying 3D data processing procedures — in particular, 3D pre-stack depth migration (PSDM-3D) — this survey layout makes it possible to increase the geological information content of seismic exploration results at the stage of regional exploration works (E&P) under complex seismic and geological conditions. Possible directions for further improvement of the technique are proposed: adding source lines and combining the WP layout with conventional 2D profiling.
