Seismotech, Ltd. will present a report at the annual scientific and practical conference “Krasnoyarsk 2024: Seismic Exploration in Siberia and Beyond” in Krasnoyarsk on October 22-25, 2024

Within the annual scientific and practical conference “Krasnoyarsk 2024: Seismic Exploration in Siberia and Beyond” we are pleased to invite you to attend the following report:

How different types of multiples distort the seismic field and how to deal with them.

The speaker: Ovchinnikov Kirill, Leading geophysicist, Seismotech Ltd.

The authors are: Ovchinnikov Kirill - Seismotech,Ltd., Andrey Shalashnikov - Seismotech,Ltd., A.A. Meretskij - RN-KrasnoyarskNIPIneft, LLC

The presence of multiples in the recorded seismic data is one of the main problems of seismic exploration, which has a great impact on the ability of correct data processing and interpretation. It is believed that multiples create problems mainly for marine data. This is because the seafloor is a very contrasting acoustic boundary that produces energy-intensive multiples. On land, multiples associated with the observational surface have much lower energy, because they are influenced by the top of the section many times. The main problem for land-based observations is internal multiples.

This report will illustrate the different types of multiples and their effect on the wave pattern using synthetic data and propose techniques to suppress them.
